Way back in 1975, founder Ben Dronkers first began dabbling in the growing of medicinal marijuana. He would harvest each plant when it came time, making absolutely sure to collect as many seeds from the best stuff he had grown and adding them to his collection. Through meticulous record keeping and experimentation Ben created one of the world’s finest amateur records of marijuana and growing, and made himself a bit of an underground superstar in the cannabis world.
In 1978 he found himself working amongst and studying with some of the Netherlands best botanists and farmers with the sole goal of expanding his understanding of how to grow the absolute best marijuana. A gigantic breakthrough came in the form of understanding just how mission critical plants genetic makeup was to the yield and crop, and he became almost obsessed with uncover what kinds of blends would create the greatest cannabis.
From Growing to Breeding – The Creation of Sensi Seeds Club
This is where Ben really moved from just growing to systematic breeding – he travelled the globe in the late 70s and early 80s in search of the best cannabis he could get his hands on, just for the chance to better study and understand their genetic makeups. These kinds of globetrotting expeditions took him to places like the Himalayas and the Hindu Kush – all over Central and Southeast Asia really – all on the hunt for the finest and most incredible marijuana strains.
After jaunts to several different locations, collecting seeds for his collection, Ben transitioned from grower to breeder in hopes of creating some of the world’s finest hybrids – combinations of the best ganja he could find, leading to super plants that would be even better than the best of their separate strains. His cross breeding programs brought some of the newest and most groundbreaking strands of marijuana to the world at large, and around this time he began to understand that his mission wasn’t solely just a person one – the marijuana loving people of the Netherlands deserved to be able to enjoy the fruits of his labors, just as much as he did. He created the seed club and shared his findings locally but after just a short time began to understand that people globally should be able to get these high quality strains of marijuana he’d been spending so much time and effort creating.
Getting Serious – Sensi Seeds Seed Bank
Opening shop in 1986, the seed bank was a one stop shop for the people of Amsterdam and quickly became quite famous. Offering not only incredible strains from the SSC but also the Seed Bank, as well as books on growing and breeding, equipment necessary to get yourself started, and knowledgeable and friendly staff, it’s not difficult to understand why this place became such a smash hit. Ben finally bought out the other owners of the Seed Bank, and established what would be the foundation for all of our current success.
